Spice it up!

Monday, July 5th, 2010

It has been said that variety is the spice of life, and the same definitely holds true for bikinis.  Who said you had to wear the same basic black or blue bikini, and who said you had the wear the same top with the same bottom??  Don't be afraid to add a splash of color to your bikini collection – the beach is a place to stand out and there's no better way to attract attention to yourself than in a bright and colorful bikini.  Not to say that having a simple black or white bikini is boring, but don't be shy to mix it up a little.  And if you want to take it a step further, mix and match tops and bottoms.  Wear a black bottom with a bold graphic print or white bottoms with a multicolored striped top.  There aren't any rules against switching up your tops and bottoms, but as a general rule of thumb, don't mix prints.

Find Your True Colors

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Women of the world are made in all kinds of uniquely beautiful shades, like that trendy new bikini that comes in everything from blue to hot pink.  However, not every color is meant for every woman.  Remember that color wheel you had to paint in kindergarten?  It is actually a very powerful tool.  Once you have identified your skin tone, you can begin to find colors that will bring out your maximum beauty potential.  For example, a woman with pale skin is not going to look as good in white.  Pale colors on this skin tone will result in a washed out and faded look.  The goal is to find shades that really pop.  You want the world to take notice of your beauty, not ignore it.  On the other end of the spectrum, darker skin looks amazing in white and other pastel shades for the same reason.  Any time there is a contrast in colors, heads will turn!

On the left, you may recognize the actress, Kirsten Dunst in a pale yellow bikini. She is a very beautiful girl, but she is so pale already that this bikini makes her nearly invisible. The model on the right also has fair skin, but the shimmering jewel tone bikini makes her stand out, accentuating her beauty.

Keep the Lace For the Bedroom

We all want to look sexy in our bikinis.  However, some women seem to think that means wearing a bikini that looks as close to lingerie as possible.  Yes, your lacy bra and panty set in unbelievably sexy.  This does not mean you should wear it to the beach.  You should always remember that lace is for the bed and lycra is for the beach.  The way to add sex appeal in a bikini is with the cut.  Brazilian cut bottoms are extremely hot right now.  From Europe to the U.S., the world has finally discovered what Brazil has known for a very long time.  Bottoms that are cut in this fashion actually make the butt more flattering, often giving the illusion of a round, sexy shape.  In proper swimwear material such as a shimmering lycra, this revealing cut is sexy, without being mistaken for those Valentine panties you have in the top drawer.

In the way of tops, you may feel that the average bikini top is rather bland, and this is why you opt for lace.  There are so many forms of embellishment that are much more exciting without that lingerie appearance.  Imagine an adorable halter style top with swarovski embellished hardware.  This will give you plenty of glamour without looking like you crawled from the bed to the beach.

Though the model at left certainly has a beautiful body, the tropical background is the only clue given that this is meant to be a bikini, and not lingerie. The model at right, however has a bikini featuring not only a sexier cut but shimmering red fabric adorned with an anchor detail drenched in sparkling crystals. This bikini is beach appropriate and even sexier than the lingerie attempt.
